It started with certain roads giving me certain feelings, but over the years various spots picked up all kinds of meaning for me. I used to shoot certain places that meant something only to me, mostly curves in the road, exits on highways, small landscapes. one especially depressing spring while hiding out in the hamptons, I got obsessed with the workmen and newly shorn hedges. I love the combination of texture and composition. I started noticing hedges in other places. Then it was just on. The finding and the seeing and shooting of hedges became my practice. i love the mix of nature and man, the function and yes the culture of hedges and how that varies from country to country. I’ve been shooting them for about 15 years. So yeah, i’m really into hedges.
